Bald Knob, at an elevation of 4,842 feet, is the third highest point in West Virginia. Located 11 miles up the mountain from Cass, the train ride round-trip takes 4 ½ hours. The Bald Knob area has a climate similar to Canada and is abundant in plants typical to the Canadian wilderness. The spectacular view from atop the overlook at Bald Knob provides a view into two states. The train will stop at Whittaker station for about 20 minutes for a rest stop, to purchase a beverage or snack at the concession stand, or to take a tour of the recreated log camp.
NOTE: Reservable seats on newly renovated Leatherbark Creek Car will be used on the long runs to Bald Knob and Spruce Run. The booth style seats are on a fully enclosed and insulated, oak paneled car that can be heated when necessary, and cost an additional $5 per ticket. Reservable seats are very limited, so make your reservation today.
Purchase of a regular ticket does not guarantee a seat. The ride may require standing for all or part of the time involved, particularly on busier days.
